Komen Houston Race for the Cure 2017

To Komen Houston’s Friends, Supporters and Survivors-

Houston and our surrounding counties throughout southeast Texas have suffered through trying circumstances in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. There are no words to adequately describe the pain we are feeling for the loss suffered by thousands of families. Our regional breast health services community is evaluating its capacity and most clinics have returned to standard medical service operations. They also face the additional challenge of addressing the disaster recovery needs of breast cancer patients and their employees. If you or your loved ones have been affected, I offer my most sincere thoughts and prayers. If there is anything we can do to support you during this time, please let me know.

So that we can focus on repairing and rebuilding our city and our community, the Susan G. Komen Houston Race for the Cure® has been rescheduled to January 2018.

While so much has been devastated, it has not dampened our fighting spirit. I am honored to see our 2017 race co-chair, Diana Moore, Amber Marsh, a breast cancer survivor, and a dedicated group of friends prepare and deliver over 11,000 meals to first responders over the last two weeks; I love to see our 1,200 race day volunteers giving their time at George R. Brown Convention Center and the Houston Food Bank; and, I am proud to see the non-profit breast health service providers supporting our patients in this extreme time of need.

I encourage our Komen community to remain focused on the repair and recovery efforts our city, county and state needs.

We look forward to seeing you in January as we walk, run, volunteer and fundraise to find the cure for the likely 3,000 Houstonians who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and nearly 600 local men and women who will die from the disease in 2017. Our community will need Komen Houston to thrive more than ever before, and we will.

Please visit our website for more information on this date change and if you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly at edouglas@komen-houston.org.

Together, we are #HoustonStrong.

Thank you for your continued support.
