Khambrel Marshall and Ellen Elam Named 2019 Komen Houston Race for the Cure Co-Chairs

HOUSTON (August 6, 2019) – Khambrel Marshall, a member of the KPRC2 Severe Weather Team and host of Houston Newsmakers, and Komen Houston Board member Ellen Elam have been named Co-Chairs for the 29th Annual Komen Houston Race for the Cure®, to be held October 5, 2019.

An integral member of the Houston community, Khambrel Marshall began his involvement with Komen Houston more than 10 years ago, starting as event emcee, then as a board member, and now for the second year in a row, Race Co-Chair. He has devoted his life to public service and giving back through Komen Houston is just one way he gives back to the City of Houston.

Ellen Elam joined the Komen Houston Board of Directors in 2018. Elam began participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk in Dallas after her sister, Cindy, passed away from metastatic breast cancer in 2008. She dreams of finding a cure so that no other families have to experience the pain and loss that comes with the terrible disease.

“I can’t think of a better team than Khambrel Marshall and Ellen Elam to represent Komen Houston as the 2019 Race for the Cure Co-Chairs,” said Komen Houston Board President Betsy Kamin. “Khambrel’s incredible community leadership, coupled with Ellen’s creativity and passion to end breast cancer forever, make them a dynamic duo who will have a tremendous positive impact on this year’s Race.”

For almost thirty years, the Komen Houston Race for the Cure has served as a powerful vehicle to spread the lifesaving message of early detection and raise funds to fight breast cancer. Seventy-five percent of funds raised will stay in the Greater Houston area to support breast health screenings, treatment and education. The remaining twenty-five percent will support Komen’s groundbreaking scientific research grants program which funds the best and most innovative research to fight breast cancer.

Breast cancer patients, those living with metastatic breast cancer, survivors, family members, supporters of the cause and all Houstonians are invited to come together for the Komen Houston Race for the Cure, followed by  a morning of festivities, all while taking action in the fight against breast cancer. With multiple ways to participate, including a 5K Run, 5K Walk, Family 1K Walk and Sleep in for the Cure, there’s something for everyone.
