2017 Race for the Cure Postponement FAQ
The Susan G. Komen® Houston Race for the Cure has been postponed.
We look forward to seeing you in early January as we walk, run, volunteer and fundraise to find the cure for the likely 3,000 Houstonians who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and nearly 600 local men and women who will die from the disease in 2017.
Our community will need Komen Houston to thrive more than ever before, and we will.
When and where will the race take place?
Race for the Cure will be held at its traditional location in Downtown Houston. Our best estimate is that the race will take place on Saturday, January 27, 2018. We are confirming this all with the appropriate City of Houston authorities, vendors and stakeholders.
If I have already registered for the Race for the Cure, what happens to my registration fee?
If you have already registered for the 2017 Komen Houston Race for the Cure, your registration will transfer to January.
If I have already started fundraising for Komen Houston, what happens to this donation?
Please continue your fundraising efforts. Nothing will change about how your individual and/or team fundraising totals are tallied. January is the 2017 Race for the Cure – Postponed.
How is the breast health service community doing post-Hurricane Harvey?
Our regional breast health services community is evaluating its capacity and most clinics have returned to standard medical service operations. They also face the additional challenge of addressing the disaster recovery needs of breast cancer patients and their employees.
How will Komen Houston celebrate the breast health community throughout October?
Pink Out Day – October 6, 2017
We encourage you to help us PINK OUT the entire City of Houston and surrounding areas. Over 40,000 women in the US will die of breast cancer this year. This is unacceptable. Let’s bring attention to this fact. Be More Than Pink
Komen Houston Golf Classic – October 23, 2017
The 4th Annual Susan G. Komen® Houston Golf Classic will take place on Monday October 23rd, 2017 at Champions Golf Club with Tammy Howell chairing this event for the third year.
The event will consist of a great day of golf, special contests and celebration as we all join together to raise additional funds for breast cancer research, education, screening, treatment and support services.
Other events to be announced.
Where do my fundraising dollars go?
Local fundraising will help Komen Houston work towards the bold goal of cutting breast cancer deaths in half as 75 cents of every dollar raised goes into the Houston community to fund the screening, treatment and support of local breast cancer patients. The remaining 25 cents is given to fund national cutting-edge research where it exists, both in Houston’s state-of-the-art Medical Center and in other centers across the country.
